May 16: The Way, the Truth, and the Life / El Camino, La Verdad, y la Vida

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (John 14, 1-6) This expression is central to our faith. Even attempting to know the truth means that we are already on the right way. Christ draws us even before we start to look for Him.

We “followers of the Way” are invited to use these Easter days to refresh our personal encounter with the Lord – who is constantly speaking to our hearts. And let’s not forget that we are also on “the Way” even when sin or misfortune makes us desolate. Even in times of turmoil and struggle, we are still “on the Way,” with Jesus. Just as there are many rooms in the Father’s house, so the ways that lead to those rooms are many and varied. The only absolute guideline Jesus gives about staying “on track” with Him is the commandment of love, that agapé love (I would lay down my life for you kind of love) which was the hallmark of His whole life on earth.

For reflection: Jesus came among us to show the Way to the Father. His whole purpose was to bring God to us and us to God. Are we willingly cooperating with His purpose and His plan?

¿Cuál es nuestra tarea Pascual y la misión de todos los cristianos en el mundo hoy? Proclamar la Buena Nueva de que Cristo ha Resucitado y vive entre nosotros. También, hacer lo que Cristo hizo. Estamos invitados a “ser Cristos” los unos para con los otros y para el mundo, porque somos pueblo de Dios, pueblo sacerdotal y misionero. No estamos solos en esta misión, ya que el mismo Cristo Vivo está con nosotros hoy, como nuestro camino, nuestra verdad, y nuestra vida. (Juan 14, 1-6)

Oremos. “Señor Dios nuestro, tu Hijo Jesucristo es para nosotros: el camino que nos conduce a ti y a los hermanos y hermanas; la verdad que es Buena Nueva de amor y de esperanza; y la vida que Él sacrificó para entregarla por nosotros. Ayúdanos a descubrir el camino hacia Él y a seguir su mismo camino hacia los otros, a proclamar siempre la verdad alentadora y creíble, y a dar nuestra vida compartiendo felicidad con los demás, por medio del mismo Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Amén.”
